About Krea 2

Krea 2 is Krea AI's first foundation image model, trained from scratch to prioritize how an image feels — its mood, lighting, and texture — rather than just what it contains. It's served on Civitai through the official fal.ai API partnership, so you can generate with the closed-weights hosted build directly on-site with no GPU or install. The model is designed around aesthetic control: style references with per-reference strength, moodboards, and a tunable creativity dial (raw, low, medium, high) that governs how far the model may drift from your inputs, making the prompt only one input among several.

The hosted model ships in two sizes. Large is the bigger build, with softer post-training that leaves more of the raw base character intact; it's the pick for photorealism of humans and animals, motion blur, film grain, low dynamic range, and imperfect lighting that reads as a real photograph. Medium is smaller, faster, and cheaper, with heavier post-training that pushes it toward illustration, anime, painting, and other stylized aesthetics with clean line work. Alongside these, Krea released two open-weight checkpoints on Hugging Face: Raw, the undistilled full-guidance build (Krea recommends ~52 steps at CFG 3.5) that carries the highest quality ceiling and is the intended target for fine-tuning and LoRA training; and Turbo, an 8-step distilled build of Raw that runs without classifier-free guidance for fast inference at 1K–2K resolution (up to 2048×2048).

Choose Krea 2 when you want photoreal grit or a defined illustration style with minimal fuss — it has a noticeable edge on the hard cases other models fight you on: lens flares, chrome and metallic surfaces, motion blur, glitter and iridescent textures, film grain, and starburst highlights. Reach for Large for chrome, lens flares, and photographic realism; Medium for clean stylized art; Raw when you want the maximum quality ceiling or a predictable base for training; and Turbo when you want Krea 2 aesthetics at a fraction of the compute. LoRAs trained on Raw carry over to Turbo, so you can train once on the full model and run inference fast on the distilled build.

How to prompt Krea 2

  • Write in natural, descriptive language — Krea 2 was trained to interpret how an image should feel, so adjectives about mood, lighting, material, and texture carry real weight. A useful order is subject and action, setting and composition, lighting and atmosphere, material and texture, then aesthetic or film-stock reference.
  • Skip weight syntax — (word:1.5), [word], and ((word)) are read as literal text and ignored as weights. Emphasize by describing what you want more vividly instead.
  • Steer with what you DO want, not negatives — negative prompts have minimal effect here. Krea 2 is built around style references, moodboards, and the creativity dial (raw/low/medium/high) rather than a "what to avoid" channel.
  • Lean into its strengths with specific language — for lens flares, chrome, motion blur, glitter, iridescence, film grain, or starburst highlights, name the exact look rather than describing it generically.
  • Keep prompts around 300 words as the practical sweet spot — there is no published token limit, but longer prompts stop adding signal past that. Aesthetic direction lives outside the text: attach a style reference or moodboard if your prompt is style-light, and pick Large (photoreal) vs. Medium (illustration) via the variant selector, not the prompt.

Frequently asked questions

What is Krea 2?

Krea 2 is Krea AI's in-house text-to-image model, tuned for photorealism and clean aesthetics. You can generate with it on Civitai — no GPU or install required.

How much does it cost to generate with Krea 2?

Generation on Civitai runs on Buzz. You can claim free Blue Buzz every day — through actions like reacting to images and other on-site activity — and put it straight toward generating, no real money required. The lighter, distilled Turbo build (8 steps) is the cheapest way to sample Krea 2, so your daily Blue Buzz stretches further, while the larger hosted Large tier and the full-guidance Raw build cost more Buzz per image — heavier use means letting your Blue Buzz accumulate or adding a membership for higher limits.

What's the difference between Krea 2, Turbo, and Raw?

The default Large/Medium tiers balance quality and cost, Turbo trades a little detail for faster generations, and Raw is the base checkpoint. Try each in the generator and keep the one that fits your shot.

Can I run Krea 2 locally or train a LoRA?

The Raw and Turbo checkpoints ship open weights you can download, and Krea 2 supports LoRA fine-tuning. You can also train a LoRA directly on Civitai with no local GPU and earn Buzz when others use it.

Do I need a GPU to use Krea 2?

Not on Civitai — we run the compute for you. Locally, plan on a 16GB+ VRAM GPU for the open-weight checkpoints.
