Brutalist architecture

Brutalist architecture is a mid-20th-century modern style that emphasizes exposed materials and construction—especially raw concrete (“béton brut”)—with bold, often geometric forms and little ornamentation. It became widely known through architects like Alison and Peter Smithson, and critic Reyner Banham helped popularize the term “new brutalism” in the 1950s.
