Afterveil is made for images that should feel as though they have lived before they were seen.

It carries a sense of age, distance and memory into portraits, characters and imagined worlds. Not as simple nostalgia, but as the strange familiarity of something you have never known and still seem to remember.

Use it when an image needs presence beyond polish. When it should suggest a life outside the frame and leave something behind after the first look.

If Afterveil finds a place in your workflow, share your first image through Add Post on this page. Seeing what it becomes in other hands is the best support.

The Look

  • Worn surfaces: Paper grain, faded transfers and uneven areas where parts of the image seem to have disappeared.

  • Black and gray weight: Deep shapes, pale washes and soft tonal loss give the image its structure.

  • Broken fragments: Rubbed borders, exposed paper and incomplete marks make the surface feel handled rather than decorated.

  • Color that lingers: A red halo, a green cloak or a familiar character color can remain while the rest of the image fades.

  • Quiet drama: The style can feel solemn, uncanny or intimate without forcing every subject into the same mood.

Where It Belongs

  • Portraits and character studies

  • Dark fantasy, gothic scenes and mythic figures

  • Creatures, masks, relics and surreal objects

  • Storms, ruins, forests and forgotten places

  • Familiar characters seen through a more distant visual memory

  • Futuristic subjects that benefit from age, damage and physical texture

If an image should feel remembered rather than newly made, Afterveil belongs there.

Trigger and Strength

Trigger word: None

Recommended strength: 0.75

Useful range: 0.60 to 1.00

At lower values, the original image and its colors remain closer to the surface. Around 0.75, worn texture and color reduction become clearly visible while the subject stays flexible. Higher values give Afterveil more room to introduce deep blacks, faded gray washes, exposed paper and missing fragments.

A strength of 1.00 creates the strongest pull toward monochrome. Colors tied to a specific object or familiar character can still remain.

Prompting

Afterveil does not need a style phrase. Write a natural Krea 2 prompt that describes the subject, action, setting and light. Add only the colors that matter.

A mystical winged figure emerges from charcoal clouds. Its tattered wings spread across the frame while a vivid red halo glows behind the hidden face. Pale paper appears through the figure and the surrounding storm.

Attach color to an object when you want it to survive.

red halo, green cloak, yellow flowers, blue optical lens

Words such as washed out print, old paper and faded scan can push the surface further. They are optional directions, not trigger words.

For a stronger monochrome result, leave out colors that are not important. For partial color, name only the objects that should keep it.

Things Worth Knowing

  • Dark backgrounds often stay dense rather than opening into pale paper.

  • Highly polished or photographic prompts may need a higher strength before the worn surface takes over.

  • Prompts that already ask for faded or monochrome imagery will show a smaller change between strengths.

  • Lower strengths are useful when you want the image to feel aged without losing its original palette.

Tested Setup

  • Base model: Krea 2 Turbo

  • Sampler: Euler a

  • Scheduler: Simple or Beta

If Afterveil leaves something with you, show me what it remembered.
