Gus Murphy

Gus Murphy has spent his entire life being the shortest person in any room. At just four feet tall, complete with shaggy golden-brown fur, soft purple horns, and a look of permanent, wide-eyed curiosity, he tends to pull a lot of second glances. But he learned a long time ago that people rarely mean anything bad by it. They're usually just surprised, and it doesn't take long before they’re smiling, striking up a conversation, or inviting him along for whatever they're up to. Gus never saw the point in feeling self-conscious about standing out. To him, the world is already full of all kinds of people, and he’s just another neighbor trying to make the most of every day.

Ask his friends, and they’ll tell you Gus is endlessly curious and pretty much impossible to discourage. He’ll try just about anything once, whether that’s rock climbing, cycling, gardening, birdwatching, or just strolling through a farmers' market chatting with whoever happens to be around. He’s not out to prove anything or race anyone to the top. If his short legs mean he arrives at the finish line a little later, or if he needs a step stool to reach a high shelf, that’s just part of the package. Gus measures a good day by the stories he gathers, the connections he makes, and the smiles he leaves behind. He just has this way of making the unusual feel totally normal, reminding everyone that kindness and curiosity don't come in any standard size.
