Tetsuya Saruwatari is a Japanese manga artist primarily known for creating hyper-violent, action-focused martial arts series. His work is characterized by highly detailed, aggressive depictions of male fighters and an unflinching focus on brutal, anatomically precise combat. His most internationally recognized work is Riki-Oh (The Story of Riki), a hugely influential, hyper-gory sci-fi martial arts manga that was adapted into a famous live-action film. Saruwatari also created the successful and long-running series Koukou Tekken-den Tough (High School Iron Fist Legend Tough) and its sequel Tough, cementing his reputation as a master storyteller in the seinen fighting genre. His style is synonymous with intense, over-the-top visceral action.
