DetailDense — Detail Density Slider

Less is more. More is much more.

DetailDense controls the density of visual information in an image, from simplified, open rendering to richly articulated surfaces, textures, and forms.

Trained using contrasting charcoal drawing descriptions, DetailDense learned a direction that extends well beyond charcoal. It works across photography, landscapes, architecture, natural subjects, painting, illustration, engraving, and graphic art.

Negative weights simplify visual structure, consolidate textures, reduce local variation, and encourage cleaner, more economical rendering.

Positive weights increase surface articulation, tonal differentiation, material texture, fine structure, and visual complexity.

Unlike a sharpening filter, DetailDense changes how the checkpoint interprets and renders the subject. Its effects can extend beyond surface detail to lighting, contrast, apparent age, weathering, composition, and scene elaboration.

Suggested weights

  • −2 to +2: Subtle to moderate changes with better subject preservation.

  • −3 to +3: Strong, expressive rendering changes. Recommended showcase range.

  • Around ±4: More substantial stylistic and compositional reinterpretation.

  • Up to ±6: Extreme simplification or dense, dramatic rendering. Expect significant changes beyond detail alone.

Negative weights are not necessarily lower quality, and positive weights are not necessarily higher quality. Both directions offer useful creative control.

DetailDense is not an upscaler, a neutral sharpening tool, or a guaranteed identity-preserving detail enhancer.

Sometimes the best detail is the detail you leave out.
