Illustrious LicenseHello everyone! I hope you’re all doing great. This time I bring you Linn Suzuki from Kotetsu no Daibouken (The Adventures of Kotetsu)! Linn Suzuki, also known as Kotetsu, is the young protagonist of Minoru Tachikawa’s action-fantasy series. Originally from Kyoto, Linn was trained in martial arts and swordsmanship from an early age by a cruel mistress before eventually escaping and traveling to Tokyo in search of her missing older brother, Tetsujin. Her journey brings her into contact with the private detective Miho Kuon, who takes Linn in and gives her the nickname “Kotetsu,” referring to her connection with Miho’s former colleague Tetsujin. What initially appears to be a simple search for her brother quickly develops into a much larger supernatural conflict involving Miho, Linn, and the mysterious Syndicate.
Linn is a highly capable young swordswoman despite her youthful appearance. She is particularly skilled in martial arts and the mysterious kirohatchi technique, and she carries the reverse-blade katana Gassan, a weapon said to have been forged by a demon. Her character combines the energetic attitude of a wandering young fighter with the discipline she acquired through her harsh training. The contrast between her relatively innocent appearance and her considerable martial ability is one of the defining aspects of her character. Her relationship with Miho also becomes an important part of her story, as Miho provides Linn with a place to stay while helping her investigate the circumstances surrounding her brother.
Visually, Linn has one of the most recognizable silhouettes in this late-1990s OVA. Her characteristic red hair is generally worn in a long braided ponytail, complemented by bright blue eyes and distinctive freckles across her face. Her outfits range from practical martial-arts and adventurer clothing to casual modern clothes and traditional Japanese garments. Swords, particularly her ornate dragon-themed katana and distinctive reverse-blade weapon, are recurring elements of her visual identity. The combination of vivid red hair, blue eyes, freckles, practical clothing, and elaborate Japanese sword designs gives her a strong retro-anime protagonist aesthetic. Kotetsu no Daibouken was originally serialized as a manga from 1992 to 2001 before receiving a two-episode OVA adaptation released in December 1996 and January 1997, directed by Yuji Moriyama.
