Masculine — Feminine ↔ Masculine
An SDXL concept slider for steering the visual presentation of femininity and masculinity.
Negative weights move toward feminine-coded presentation, while positive weights move toward masculine-coded presentation.
Unlike a simple male/female transformation, this slider targets the model's broader learned representation of masculinity and femininity. It can alter facial structure, physique, age presentation, styling, grooming, clothing, pose, materials, design language, environment and other visual cues depending on the subject.
The direction can also generalize beyond human subjects. In testing, it produced meaningful changes in animals, vehicles, footwear, interiors and other objects by shifting whatever visual characteristics the model associates with feminine or masculine presentation.
Importantly, the slider can work within a prompted identity. Masculine women can remain women; feminine men can remain men. Prompts such as “handsome woman” and “beautiful man” can also interact with the slider rather than simply collapsing into a sex swap.
Not every subject has an equally strong masculine/feminine representation. Some objects respond dramatically, while others show subtler changes. This is part of the concept being explored rather than a guarantee that every subject has an obvious feminine and masculine form.
Weight Range
Negative = Feminine
Positive = Masculine
Suggested starting range:
-1 / +1 — moderate steering
-2 / +2 — strong steering
-3 / +3 — beginning of extreme behavior
Lower weights are recommended when you want to preserve more of the original prompt or subject characteristics.
Because this is a semantic concept slider, the result depends strongly on what the base model understands as masculine or feminine in the context of the prompt.
Things to Try
Try it with:
women and men
masculine women / feminine men
handsome women / beautiful men
portraits and full-body characters
animals
vehicles
clothing and footwear
armour
rooms and interiors
architecture and product design
Non-human subjects can be particularly interesting because the slider has to express masculinity or femininity through design language rather than biological sex.
Notes
This slider reflects associations already present in the underlying model. It is not intended as a definition of what men, women, masculinity or femininity should look like.
Results will vary by checkpoint, prompt and weight.
