Quick reference

  • -1.0 = smoother / straighter / reduced curl

  • 0.0 = mostly neutral / prompt-dependent baseline

  • +1.0 = soft wave to light curl

  • +2.0 = clearly curled / styled

  • +2.5 and up = bold curls, ringlets, high-volume curl energy

Curls

A hair-structure slider for when “nice portrait” isn’t enough and the hair needs a personality of its own.

Curls pushes hair from smoother and straighter presentation toward waves, curls, and full-on ringlets, while staying useful across ordinary portraits, glamour work, and even the occasional furry subject. At moderate weights, it adds believable softness and curl pattern; at higher weights, it leans into more dramatic volume, spiral texture, and bolder curl definition.

This is not a “magic hair fix everything” tool — it’s a focused directional slider meant to give you control over curliness without needing to rewrite your whole prompt. It’s especially handy when you want to test how much of a character’s look, mood, or presence changes once the hair shifts from sleek to textured, romantic, wild, playful, or theatrical.

In my tests, around +1 to +2 is the clean everyday sweet spot for human portraits. Higher values can produce stronger, more stylized curls and ringlets. Negative values can be used to reduce curl and smooth the hair out. As always, some checkpoints like a lighter touch; more stylized models, may prefer lower weights.

If you want a slider that can move a subject from polished and straight-haired to soft, curly, or dramatically ringleted without rebuilding the whole image, Curls is exactly that.

Technical explanation

Target: hair curliness/curl structure
Poles:

  • Pole A: a woman with straight / smoother hair

  • Pole B: a woman with curly hair
    Anchor: none

This is a clean directional slider trained to move hairstyle structure along a straight-to-curly axis. In practice, it tends to affect:

  • curl formation

  • wave pattern

  • volume

  • ringlet definition

  • overall “styled curl” energy

It works best when the hair is visible and has room in the composition to express the change. Tight facial crops still work, but head-and-shoulders portraits or bust shots usually show the effect most clearly. It can also transfer surprisingly well outside the exact training concept, including some furry or curly-coated animal prompts.
