While Dropout Idol Fruit Tart follows the struggles of underdog idols trying to make it in show business, the series is uniquely celebrated for its deep, eccentric fetishistic undertones, with every character harboring their own intense obsessions. Hayu is a former struggling musician (vocalist of a rock band) who brings vital composing and musical talent to Fruit Tart. Initially standing out as the group's sole grounded "voice of reason" without an overt fetish, she gradually develops a deep, flustered obsession with the protagonist Ino Sakura. Ultimately falling victim to Ino's effortless, natural charm, her increasingly tsundere and easily flustered reactions make her an endlessly endearing character.

Her family name originates from Nukui Kita-machi and Nukui Minami-cho in Koganei City (Kita-machi housing Tokyo Gakugei University, while Minami-cho forms a quiet residential neighborhood), and "Hayu" is derived from the syllable "Ha" in the traditional Japanese Iroha poem.
