Daguerreotype Decay Style recreates the haunting beauty of aged 19th-century daguerreotype photography. This style emphasizes extreme detail, photorealistic rendering, dramatic high contrast, and intimate portrait composition, combined with the visual imperfections of time: tarnished silver surfaces, chemical decay, scratches, fading, and atmospheric blur. Images are typically presented in greyscale or monochrome, with shallow depth of field that draws attention to the subject while softening the surrounding scene.

Notes on the Style
The images used to create this LoRA were selected from hundreds of public-domain daguerreotype photographs, ultimately narrowed to a curated set of 95 images selected for their pronounced tarnish, oxidation, surface decay, and exceptional image clarity. The goal was to capture not only the distinctive aging effects of historic silver-plate photography, but also the remarkable sharpness and detail that made daguerreotypes unique. Images containing frames or extensive presentation materials were intentionally excluded in order to focus the training on the photographic plates themselves and preserve the authentic character of the medium while maintaining compatibility with modern rectangular image formats. A future release may explore framed and archival presentation styles, but for this model I wanted to concentrate on the plate and its deterioration alone.

For best results, pair this LoRA with realistic checkpoints and complementary realism-focused LoRAs. Strong weighting on triggers such as daguerreotype_decay, decay, tarnish, shallow focus, and blur can help emphasize the aged photographic aesthetic. The training set consisted primarily of portraits and upper-body compositions, so the model performs most consistently with portrait, bust, and torso-focused images. Full-body and cowboy shots can still produce compelling results, though they may exhibit reduced stylistic fidelity depending on the checkpoint, prompt structure, and generation settings used.

Ideal for creating eerie historical portraits, forgotten aristocrats, spectral figures, Victorian gothic scenes, antique character studies, and images that feel unearthed from a dusty archive where time has been less than gentle.
