Nova Cross AM Reviews
When I woke up, checked my notifications, and saw a post about a new version of Nova Cross AM, my first reaction was pure surprise—I wasn't aware of any major base updates that would warrant a new release so soon. Then I opened the changelog and read the very first line: "Style closer to the v1.0." My jaw practically hit the floor. I was overwhelmed with a mix of disbelief, excitement, and an immense sense of gratitude. I immediately ran a quick celebratory test generation, and it felt like… could the classic style really be back? A single image wasn't enough to be sure, so I spent the entire day eagerly waiting for the evening to put the model through a proper, rigorous testing session.
Now, after a full week of heavy daily use and 30 completed generations waiting in the wings, I can confidently say: this checkpoint is an absolute triumph.
Anatomy & Proportions: Pure bliss! Because both v2.0 and v3.0 share the exact same underlying structural foundation (Anima B1 + A11 + 2.9B), comparing them on identical seeds is effortless—the overall composition, pose, and scene details remain nearly identical, making it super easy to isolate the exact differences. The classic head-to-body proportions from v1.0 are genuinely back! That lingering "uncanny valley" feeling I experienced with v2.0 has completely vanished. As a result, character figures and bust sizes naturally render exactly as intended again, without me having to artificially downgrade my tags just to keep the silhouette balanced. Everything looks harmonious, natural, and aesthetically spot-on.
Faces & Eyes: The softness and moe charm have returned! It’s not a 1:1 carbon copy of v1.0, and honestly, that’s a good thing—it captures that exact same gentle vibe and mood, just evolved. My struggle with v2.0 came down to micro-details: the default width of the eyes, the height of the eyelid crease, and how heavily the eyelids covered the irises. Version 3.0 eliminates every single one of those issues. While the eye shape and eyelid geometry are still subtly different from v1.0, here it feels like a deliberate stylistic evolution rather than a flaw. It’s a fresh, refined look that I wholeheartedly embrace.
Emotions: Top-tier! Expressive faces were one of the main reasons I fell in love with v1.0 in the first place. However, looking back at v1.0 after experiencing the capabilities of v2.0 and v3.0, I realize that the older expressions were sometimes a bit over-the-top and slightly cartoony (which suited the style back then, so it wasn't a bad thing). In v3.0, the emotional engine feels much more grounded, nuanced, and believable. Expressions don't look forced; they read as natural, context-aware reactions to the scene.
Posing, Lighting & Prompt Adherence: When I originally stepped away from v2.0 due to the style shift, I tried going back to v1.0—but after tasting the technical upgrades of the B1 architecture, the downgrade in scene interaction and prompt handling was impossible to ignore. I ended up migrating to Nova Anime AM v6.0 for a while just to keep that workflow flexibility.
Thankfully, Nova Cross v3.0 retains every single technical triumph of v2.0. Prompt adherence is phenomenal; the model hasn't stubbornly fought me once, and any minor quirk is easily fixed with a tiny prompt tweak. Posing, camera angles, and complex physical interactions work like a dream. Even after spending solid time with the flagship Nova Anime AM v6.0, I honestly feel that Nova Cross AM v3.0 might have a slight edge in sheer technical polish. And the lighting? It is just as flawless as in v2.0, if not slightly better. I have total freedom to direct multi-source lighting setups exactly how I envision them.
Hands & Anatomical Stability (What kind of sorcery is this?): In a full week of intensive testing, I encountered a six-fingered hand once. Just ONE time! Neither v1.0 nor v2.0 could boast that kind of stability. I also got an extra arm once, though that was entirely on me for pushing an overly complex multi-action pose. Every time I zoom in on the hands—especially at tricky angles with overlapping fingers—expecting to find morphing digits or fingernails growing out of nowhere, I’m greeted with clean, anatomically sound hands. This drastically cuts down the time spent on inpainting or seed-hunting.
Final Verdict: I keep discovering new ways the Anima architecture handles intricate prompt details, and I’m more convinced than ever that this ecosystem is the future. I’m proud to be an early adopter of this line! Nova Cross AM v3.0 is the ultimate synthesis of v1.0’s beloved soul and v2.0’s technical muscle. I have a massive batch of new generations ready to roll out soon, and I fully intend to reclaim my spot as the top contributor to this model's gallery!
P.S. I actually looked around to see if anyone else had complained about the v2.0 proportion shift besides me, and I couldn't find a single other comment mentioning it. So, if the direction of v3.0 was genuinely influenced by my previous review… from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much! It is an absolute joy to be back working with my favorite checkpoint!
