This LoRA adds Retro, 1970s-Style, "Midcentury Modern" Backdrops to your images.

[EDIT 2: Actually, this seems to add the patterns to clothes and other things just fine, so feel free to to that too. Nonetheless the tags still say 'background'. Sorry about that.]

Taking a break from styles/characters to try a concept LoRA. I think this one worked out pretty well. Trained on synthetic data in a variety of styles, so there is no style bleed-over onto your foreground subject. This is an experimental model, so please share feedback about your discoveries -- for example what you can add the patterns to, or what colours can be used.

Use

The main trigger for the lora is retrobg. It's trained on five patterns mainly, though it's likely capable of more -- remember to experiment! The tags are:

  • floral background -- self-explanatory

  • striped background -- self-explanatory

  • chevron background -- also known as zig-zags

  • seigaiha background -- the classic Japanese wave pattern

  • leaf background -- undulating, leaf-like patterns. Has an unfortunate tendency to add actual leaves; try adding them to the negatives

  • petal background -- undulating, petal-like patterns. As above, can add actual petals to the composition, so try negging it

  • arch background -- creates a striped, rainbow-like arch

  • Combinations thereof -- stripes + flowers works nicely for example

Other

  • Upscaling is recommended to help refine the patterns. I use Impact's iterative upscaling tools in Comfy.

  • Strength of 0.9 works well; still workshopping this.

  • The lora is mainly trained on warm, autumnal colors like browns, reds, oranges, yellows and beiges. Nonetheless, try experimenting with different color combos and see how flexible it is.

  • Try adding thick outlines, black outline to the subject to make them jump out more, as the background can obviously be quite busy

As always, I hope you enjoy this gen. Please share your experiments with it! It helps me keep the models coming.

Cheers!
