Akihiro Yamada is a renowned Japanese artist, manga creator, and illustrator, recognized for his delicate, intricate style that often depicts fantasy subjects. He is perhaps most famous for his exquisite character designs and illustrations for Fuyumi Ono's popular novel series, The Twelve Kingdoms (Juuni Kokki).

His artistic approach blends Japanese sensibilities, sometimes reminiscent of suiboku (ink wash painting), with influences from medieval European artwork and chivalry, giving his creations a distinct, cross-cultural aesthetic. Beyond novels, Yamada has contributed character and concept designs to various anime, including $RahXephon$, and numerous video games like Front Mission 3 and the Wizardry series. He won the Seiun Award for Best Artist in 1996, highlighting his significant impact on Japanese fantasy media.
