Gemstone Design

Gemstone design is a creative practice that integrates aesthetics, craftsmanship, and the unique properties of gemstones. Its core goal is to maximize the value and beauty of gemstones through cutting, setting, and styling.

First, gemstone cutting takes precedence. It requires customizing cutting proportions and the number of facets based on the gemstone’s optical properties (such as refractive index and dispersion). For example, the round brilliant cut for diamonds uses 57-58 facets to optimize its fire and luster.

Second is setting craftsmanship. Common techniques include prong setting, bezel setting, and pave setting. These methods not only secure the gemstone to prevent it from falling off but also minimize metal obstruction of the gemstone. Meanwhile, color matching between metal materials (e.g., K-gold, platinum) and gemstones enhances the overall texture.

Finally, overall styling design needs to align with wearing scenarios (daily use, banquets) and user needs, incorporating cultural elements or artistic styles. This transforms gemstone works into wearable art that combines both craftsmanship and aesthetics, while carrying emotional value.
