🔔 Final Update: Tornado V5 — The Swan Song

Tornado V5 is the final version of Tornado.

No V5.1. No V6 waiting around the corner.

This is where the storm ends.

And fittingly, Tornado's final chapter brings it back to where everything began.

Long before Tornado had its own identity, there was DreamcatcherFantasy — one of my earliest attempts at building an SDXL model capable of spanning fantasy, surrealism, realism, illustration, and everything somewhere in between. It was ambitious, messy, inconsistent, and eventually became obsolete.

But it was also the seed from which Tornado grew.

Tornado originally began as an attempt to move beyond DreamcatcherFantasy. Over successive versions it gradually found its own language: softer painterly rendering, stronger composition, richer fantasy environments, more natural lighting, restrained anime influence, and eventually the fine-art aesthetic that became its identity.

With V5, Tornado deliberately returns to those roots.

Elements of the old DreamcatcherFantasy lineage have been brought back into the model — not to undo the journey, but to complete it.

V5 carries some of the strange imagination, broad fantasy vocabulary, and dreamlike unpredictability of DreamcatcherFantasy, while retaining the painterly maturity, visual coherence, lighting, composition, and identity Tornado developed across V1 through V4.

In a strange way, Tornado spent its entire life running away from DreamcatcherFantasy only to discover that there were pieces of it worth bringing home.

So V5 isn't a reboot.

It isn't a change of direction.

It's a full circle.

The rough ideas that started the journey meet the model that eventually learned how to express them.

DreamcatcherFantasy was the beginning.
Tornado V5 is the answer.

And with that, Tornado is finished.

TORNADO was one of my earliest model experiments in the SDXL space — and while it started as a planned update to DreamcatcherFantasy, it quickly took on a life of its own.

My original goal? Build a model that could channel everything from Middle Earth to Alice in Wonderland, from surreal dreamscapes to neon-drenched Cyberpunk — and do it all without relying on LoRAs.

Let’s be honest: DreamcatcherFantasy bit off more than it could chew. It wanted to do everything — realism, fantasy, abstraction — and ended up doing none of them particularly well.

TORNADO was my answer to that: a tighter, more focused vision with fewer compromises and a lot more personality.

Over time, though, Tornado became more than simply an attempt to fix DreamcatcherFantasy. It developed an identity of its own.

Unlike Typhoon, which leans hard into stylization and visual punch, Tornado aims for something different:

A blend of surreal fantasy and fine-art realism, painted with elegance, subtle texture, and dramatic tones.

It wants to feel like an oil painting — not a digital render.

It’s imaginative, introspective, a little moody, and not afraid to be understated when it counts.

With V5, that identity is complete.

🧬 Model Evolution

• V1 was the noob — a cleaned-up remnant of Dreamcatcher, full of big dreams and unrefined energy. The style was a jumbled mix of influences, none of it quite coalescing. It was an identity crisis writ large.

• V2 was the angsty teen — bold, experimental, and reaching for everything. Sometimes it lost its identity, feeling a bit too generic. A jack of all trades, master of none.

• V3 was the quiet voice — finally finding its footing. Soft, painterly, infused with pastel hues and a more harmonious, evocative visual language. Training included subtle soft-anime influences that helped shape its fantasy aesthetic without turning it into an anime model.

• V4 was that quiet voice… a little louder.
  Retaining V3's fine-art foundation while dialing back the anime influence and refining the balance between softness and realism. Lighting grew deeper, skin tones more natural, fabrics more believable, poses more grounded, and the fantasy world began to feel genuinely lived-in.

• V5 comes home.
  Tornado's final version reconnects with the DreamcatcherFantasy lineage that started everything, bringing some of its old dreamlike imagination and fantasy breadth back into a model shaped by everything learned along the way.

  It isn't Tornado becoming DreamcatcherFantasy again.

  It's Tornado finally being mature enough to embrace where it came from.

  The chaos of the beginning meets the discipline of the journey.

  The circle closes.

🌪️ The End of the Storm

Tornado has been around for a long time.

It began during a very different period of SDXL, when I was still experimenting, learning what merging and training could actually do, and figuring out what kind of models I even wanted to build.

Since then, the landscape has changed.

The tools changed.

The models changed.

And I've changed with them.

There are newer architectures now, newer projects, and entirely new directions worth exploring. Tornado doesn't need to follow them.

It has already done what it needed to do.

Rather than endlessly updating it until the thing that made Tornado Tornado disappears, V5 feels like the right place to stop.

So this release is its swan song.

No unfinished roadmap.

No "coming soon."

Just one final version of an old model, carrying a little piece of every version that came before it — including the forgotten model that started the whole thing.
