Pictish Stones

This LoRA model is trained on authentic Pictish standing stones from around Perthshire and the east of Scotland, capturing the intricate carvings, mysterious symbols, and distinctive artistry of this ancient culture. Ideal for generating historical, fantasy, or mythological-inspired artwork.

What Are Pictish Standing Stones?

Pictish stones are monolithic carvings left behind by the Picts, a mysterious and powerful people who inhabited what is now Scotland between the 6th and 9th centuries CE. These stones, often intricately decorated with abstract symbols, battle scenes, and enigmatic creatures, are thought to represent clan emblems, status markers, religious beliefs, or records of important events.

Many of these stones are found in my home county of Perthshire, the heartland of the Pictish kingdoms. This region was home to Fortriu, the most dominant Pictish kingdom, which thrived along the fertile lowlands and river valleys. The abundance of suitable stone, combined with the political and cultural significance of the area, led to a high concentration of these carvings, many of which still stand today, weathered but enduring symbols of Scotland’s ancient past.
