morsure, An engraving on steel. A snow leopard lies along a narrow mountain ledge, its long tail curving around its hind legs while its head remains raised toward a distant ridge. The animal should feel comfortably supported by the rock, with the forepaws resting close together and the shoulder line visible beneath its thick coat. Use a wide composition in which the ledge enters from the lower left and opens onto an immense valley. Broken rock faces descend beyond the animal, but their detail becomes simpler as they recede. A small tuft of alpine grass grows from a crack near the nearest paw. Far across the valley, a high slope catches the last light, separated from the foreground by a broad, quiet atmosphere. Keep the leopard's gaze calm and specific, as if following a movement too distant for the viewer to locate. Its spotted coat should belong naturally to the body rather than becoming an ornamental pattern. The mood is one of extraordinary space and contained strength, with the animal's stillness anchoring a landscape that seems to continue far beyond the visible edges.
