A candid waist-up photograph of sorenji woman in her uniform, a deputy in her late twenties, leaning on her elbows across the scuffed wooden booking counter of a small county sheriff's station late at night, chin propped on one fist, the other hand tapping a pen against an open paper ledger, giving the camera a slow, unimpressed half-smile. On the counter sit a brass desk bell, a rotary stamp and a chipped coffee mug; behind her a corkboard of wanted posters, a wall clock reading a quarter past two and a dim doorway to the cells. A single green-shaded banker's lamp on the counter lights her from below and to the left in warm tungsten, the rest of the room falls into deep brown shadow with a faint cool spill from a window behind her. 50 mm lens at counter height, shallow depth of field, warm film-like colour, soft grain.
