Endless rows of blooming lavender run in long curved lines toward the horizon on the Valensole plateau in Provence, shortly before sunset. The rows glow in intense purple and violet in the foreground and fade to soft lilac in the distance. At the end of the field stands an old stone farmhouse with a terracotta roof and pale blue shutters next to a single large walnut tree. The low golden sun from the right casts long blue shadows between the rows and turns the tips of the flowers to gold. The sky shifts from warm peach above the hills to clear turquoise overhead, with a few pink clouds. A woman in a wide straw hat walks along the path between the rows, carrying a basket of cut lavender.
