The old harbor of Honfleur at sunrise, seen from the stone quay. A dozen wooden fishing boats and small sailboats rest on perfectly still water, their masts forming a forest of thin vertical lines. The sun has just risen behind the hills across the bay, a pale orange disc in a haze of pink and lavender mist, and its light lays a broken path of gold across the water that splinters into hundreds of flickering fragments between the hulls. Tall narrow houses with slate roofs line the left side of the quay. In the foreground a fisherman in a blue smock coils rope on the deck of a red-hulled boat, and two seagulls glide low over the water.
