An intimate portrait of an elderly woman with silver hair pinned up in a bun, sitting in a worn armchair beside a tall window in a cottage living room. She is knitting a long scarf in deep red wool, the needles catching the light, and a ginger cat sleeps curled up on her lap among the loose yarn. Warm late-afternoon sunlight falls through thin lace curtains onto her face, her hands and the folds of her lavender cardigan, while the rest of the room fades into soft brown and olive shadow. On the windowsill stand a blue-and-white porcelain jug with wild daisies and a pair of reading glasses on an open letter. Through the window one can glimpse a sunlit garden with tall hollyhocks.
