A Southern Pacific EMD SD45 diesel locomotive in gray and scarlet paint with a red nose leads a freight train around a sweeping curve in the Tehachapi Mountains. The number 7408 is on the cab side and the long hood carries no lettering. Dry golden grass covers the hills under a hazy blue sky, and several more locomotives trail behind it.
