A woman stands alone in a vast, flat field under a dark, stormy sky. She is wearing a brown short-sleeved shirt with a collar and a white skirt that reaches her knees. Her left hand is raised to shield her eyes as she looks upward. Her right hand holds a shovel, which lies on the ground beside her, its blade pointing toward the bottom left corner. The ground beneath her is illuminated by a spotlight-like glow, casting a long, sharp shadow of her figure stretching toward the right. In the distant background, silhouettes of trees and a small house with a single lit window are visible against a dark horizon. The sky above is a turbulent mix of deep blues and blacks, suggesting an impending storm or nightfall. The overall mood is solitary and contemplative.
