A stern old king stares straight into the camera, his deep-set eyes sunken in shadowed hollows beneath a heavy brow, his face carved with deep wrinkles, a faded scar running from his cheekbone into his beard and a few grey hairs on his weathered skin. His long, coarse grey and white beard reaches his chest, with two thin braids bound by small dark iron rings. On his head sits an elaborate wrought-metal crown of tall jagged points, dented on one side, its engraved band set with dark gemstones and one empty socket where a stone has been lost. He wears a heavy black wool cloak with a tall raised collar lined with matted fur, fastened at the throat by a tarnished silver clasp, with a glint of dark chainmail visible at the opening below. A single soft key light from the upper left falls across his face, picking out every crease, the grain of his skin, the strands of his beard and the hammered texture of the crown, while the right side of his face and most of the cloak sink into deep shadow. He is centered in a symmetrical chest-up composition against a plain mid-grey studio backdrop with a faint darker vignette at the edges. Black and white dark fantasy portrait photograph with high contrast, crisp focus, deep blacks, bright metallic highlights and fine grain.
