Colonel Keane Reeves, dressed in a worn Union officer's uniform, stands with his eyes closed and mouth agape, his face tilted upward as he strains against the howling gusts inside a train station as the wheels of a steam engine thunder past behind him, steam hissing from the pipes as it roars by, the wooden platform creaking beneath his feet on a stormy evening in the midst of the American Civil War, the wind whipping his hair back and forth across his pale face and the brass buttons of his coat straining to stay in place, a leather hat clutched in one hand as he clings to the station's wall for support.
