fantasy painting in the style of John Howe, depicting an old weary wizard sleeping in his observatory study. In the center, an elderly astrologer with a long, flowing white beard and mustache is fast asleep, slumped deeply into a heavy, ornate dark leather armchair. He wears a voluminous, heavily folded midnight-black hooded scholar's robe. An open, massive ancient spellbook rests across his lap. In the background, framed by a massive gothic stone archway, is a colossal, highly intricate golden brass astrolabe and planetarium mechanism, engraved with celestial runes and sun symbols. Flanking the machine, open windows look directly out into a pitch-black deep-space sky filled with thousands of tiny, sharp twinkling silver stars and a large glowing diamond-shaped star. In the lower left foreground, a metallic silver alchemical pitcher sits on the dark wooden floorboards. Rich analog oil and watercolor canvas texture, dramatic low-key chiaroscuro lighting casting golden highlights on his white beard and the metal instruments, moody and scholarly dark fantasy artwork.
