A macro shot of a large piece of translucent amber held against a bright light source. Inside, a prehistoric butterfly is perfectly preserved, showing the microscopic scales on its wings and the fine hairs on its legs. The amber contains tiny trapped air bubbles and internal fractures that refract the light into golden patterns. The surface of the amber has subtle scratches and a polished waxy sheen.
