Ted Nasmith art style. This is an illustration depicting a scene in a forest at dusk or in heavy overcast weather. The setting is a clearing with dark evergreen trees, some of which are dead and bare. The ground is a mix of dirt, grass, and scattered rocks. There are four figures. On the left, standing on a dark, rocky ledge, is the character Gandalf the White. He is viewed mostly from behind and is enveloped in a bright white aura. He wears long, flowing white robes with a simple belt. His hair and beard are long and white. His left arm is raised with the palm open, and in his right hand, he holds a tall wooden staff that emanates an orange-white light, particularly at the gnarled top. Facing Gandalf are three other characters in defensive stances. The illustration depicts the moment Gandalf the White reveals himself to Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli in Fangorn Forest.
